The conditionlography test, an electronic examination of the temporomandibular joints, makes it possible, among other things, to detect the causes of problems with chewing or swallowing food, as well as speaking. Thanks to it, it is possible to plan effective and lasting dental treatment. At the Dorotowska Dental Clinic, the conditionlography examination is performed with the Cadiax 4 device.
Indications for the examination
- symptoms of temporomandibular disorders (pain in the temporomandibular muscles/joints, crackling, crackles, limited mandibular mobility)
- symptoms of tooth abrasion (attrition), recurrent enamel damage (erosion) and tooth fractures, loosening and movement of teeth
- planning and control of prosthodontic treatment
- planning and control of orthodontic treatment
Course of the examination
The conditionlographic examination consists of manual, and then electronically determining the actual hinge axis of the temporomandibular joints, and then evaluating their function during movements. Before the examination begins, the doctor prepares individual plaster models of the patient's jaw and mandible, which are ultimately mounted in an articulator, a simulator of mandibular movements.
During the examination, movements of the mandible in various positions (including during speaking, swallowing or biting) are recorded using a mechanism that connects the skull to the mandible. At the doctor's command, the patient makes specific movements of the mandible at appropriate moments, speaking, swallowing water, biting and grinding teeth. Initially, the movements are recorded in analog (with a stylus) and then by computer. The data is transferred to an articulator, in which models of the patient's dental arches are mounted, so that it is programmed exactly as the patient's temporomandibular joint is built. The final stage of the examination is a comprehensive analysis of the results obtained by the doctor and, consequently, the determination of a further treatment plan.
The examination allows, among other things. design precise prosthetic restorations, which, after transfer to the patient's mouth, will "fit" in the occlusion and provide good chewing, speech, swallowing, grinding function in the best possible way, while meeting the highest aesthetic requirements.
The condlography examination takes about two hours and requires no prior preparation.
