Inlay, onlay, overlay

It is a group of prosthetic restorations whose common feature is the reconstruction of tooth tissues using material developed in the prosthetic laboratory. Coronal inserts, because this is also called these supplements, are an indirect therapeutic option between direct filling, i.e. a seal and a full prosthetic crown. The range of the tooth preparation is determined by carious or traumatic changes of the teeth, which is also characteristic for fillings, while the common feature is the need to prepare a ready complement to the laboratory - this is why the procedure involves more visits, but in many cases allows you to rebuild teeth in a more durable and aesthetic way than with the classic filling.

A special indication for making the contribution is the lack of conservative restoration of such sensitive points as the tangential surface, i.e. adjacent to the adjacent tooth or chewing surface.

By transferring part of the work to the laboratory, it is possible to reproduce these structures very precisely so as to protect neighboring tissues and balance the short-circuit conditions. Due to the area of the cavity, the onlay, inlay and overlay additions mentioned in the introduction stand out, while the Polish equivalent of these names is the effort, contribution and overburden. The materials from which they can be made are mainly ceramics and composite materials. Formerly, metal alloys were used for this purpose, however, the desire to have all teeth aesthetically identical to natural teeth made the dentists use only the materials that provided it. Indications for individual types are selected individually for each patient.

Contributions step by step:

The procedure for making the cartridge does not differ significantly from that described at the prosthetic crowns. So the first stage is the examination of the tooth and surrounding tissues, after which one can often proceed.

Tooth grinding is completely painless thanks to the use of anesthesia. After it is performed, the impression of both dental arches is taken, and the color is selected so that it fits perfectly with the rest of the tooth.

The last visit is cementing the contribution. Due to the necessity of using special cements, so-called They often have to be made in a rubber dam cover - it is a special rubber cover that protects the tooth against moisture. Due to its size, it may cause some discomfort to the patient, but after a while it gives way to comfort, caused by the freedom of the tongue, the lack of lignin rollers and the continuous drainage of saliva using a saliva ejector. A well-made cartridge allows you to achieve an aesthetic and functional effect corresponding to the natural tissues of the tooth.
